General Settings view
The General Settings view is a set of simulation data that does not belong to any of the other data types. The reporting and restart intervals are defined in the general settings as well as water properties and a number of other special parameters.
Perhaps the most important parameters in the general settings are the grid dimensions: NDIVIX, NDIVIY, and NDIVIZ. Together these define the size of the grid. The ECLIPSE™ simulator uses either a Cartesian or a Corner Point xyz grid. Any block in the grid can be identified by a set of coordinates (I,J,K), where 1 ≤ I ≤ NDIVIX, 1 ≤ J ≤ NDIVIY, 1 ≤ K ≤ NDIVIZ. The z axis is always in the depth direction and increases with increasing depth. The x and y axes are horizontal dimensions. The ECLIPSE™ simulator does not specify an orientation for these axes. However, by convention, the x axis is associated with Easting, and the y axis is associated with Northing. You should also be aware that x increases with Easting and y decreases with northing. Furthermore, you should be aware that the ECLIPSE™ simulator's dimensions are 1-based (that is, each dimension starts with 1) while the application's axes are zero-based.
The master table for the General Settings view is the deck. Normally there is one deck in each simulation case. Additional decks can be added. Only one deck can be marked active. The active deck is the one that is built, is displayed on the explorer, and whose tables are displayed in other input views.
Therefore, deleting a row from the master table in the General Settings view has simulation case wide implication. The deck is the parent of all other rows in the dataset, therefore, deleting a deck will delete all associated data, including wells, faults, etc. These are all data inside the simulation case; the static model is unaffected by any deletion operation in the simulation case.
Context menu
The context menu for the general settings view is accessed by right clicking any of the tabs. The context menu items are:
Add Standard Reporting Adds entries to create PRES, SOIL, SGAS, SWAT volumes on 30 day intervals, and WELLS reporting for the Production Data view.
Add Standard Includes Adds basic includes to the deck, found in the Includes tab of the view.
Update Dimensions Update dimension variables on Dimensions tab. This also occurs as a result of building a deck.
Tabs in the General Settings view
The General Settings view has fifteen tabs:
General General parameters for the simulation case.
SCHEDULE Parameters Additional global options defined in the SCHEDULE section.
Aquifer Influence Function Tables Defines the influence function table for Carter-Tracy aquifers.
PROPS Output Control Parameters controlling reporting of PROPS data section. (RPTPROPS)
Reset Control Parameters Parameters for the TUNINGDP keyword.
Control Parameters Parameters for the TUNING keyword.
Tracers List of tracers used in simulation case and their properties.

General tabKey fields and categories of the General tab:
TITLE One line description of the case, this is given to the deck.
ECLIPSE version The simulator version used, E100 or E300. Depending on the selected simulator the input options may vary through the workflow.
Units Units system to be applied to the simulation case.
Grid type and dimensions Defines size of grid.
Execution Options Defines mode of simulation.
Thermal Options Define the options for thermal methods. For E100, you can select between TEMP (applicable for grid blocks with non-zero pore volume) or TEMPR (applicable for grid blocks with zero pore volume). For E300, you can select THERMAL option while working on thermal recovery methods for compositional simulations.
PVT Mode Options Select black oil or compositional PVT mode. Define the phases in the simulation.
Standard Conditions (STCOND) Defines standard pressure and temperature values.
The SCHEDULE Parameters tab defines various global parameters used in the schedule section. You can define these parameters on the pre-defined date and times which can be accessed from the drop down list, or manually enter the date and time. The parameters consist of:
WLIMTOL Tolerance fraction for economic and other limits.
GCONTROL Tolerance for group control targets. Defined through a tuple.
WORKLIM Time taken for each automatic workover.
WELSOMIN Minimum oil saturation for automatic opening.
PRIORITY Coefficients for well prioritization. Defined through a tuple.
The Aquifer Influence Function Tables tab contains tables that define parameters for the AQUTAB keyword. The left hand table defines the aquifer at which the parameters are implemented. The right hand table defines values for the selected aquifer.
The PROPS Output Control tab defines entries for the RPTPROPS keyword.
Keyword The RPTPROPS keyword selected from a drop down line.
Parameter Value for the keyword. In most cases this is empty.
The Reset Control Parameters tab contains tables that define parameters for the TUNINGDP keyword. The left hand table defines the schedule time at which the tuning parameters are implemented. The right hand table defines values for individual tuning parameters for the selected time.
The Control Parameters tab contains tables that define parameters for the TUNING keyword. The left hand table defines the schedule time at which the tuning parameters are implemented. The right hand table defines values for individual tuning parameters for the selected date and time.
On this tab, specify the properties of the tracers if they are used in the simulation case.
Name Specify name of the tracer
ID Associated ID for the tracer
Units Units for the tracer amount
Phase Solution phase of the tracer. Specify the component name in case of compositional simulation.
Kp Number of table used for the partitioned tracer within the wellbore.
The table on the Schedule Output Controls Tab is used to define entries for the RPTSCHED keyword.
Time Time or date at which the RPSCHED keyword is implemented.
Keyword RPTSCHED keyword. Selected from dropdown combo box.
Parameter Parameter for the RPTSCHED keyword. In most cases the parameter field is empty.
The table on the RESTART Output Controls Tab defines entries for the RPTRST keyword.
Time Time or date at which the RPTRST keyword is implemented.

Parameter Parameter for the RPTRST keyword. In most cases the parameter field is empty.
The Options tab is used to specify various program options.
Key columns of the Includes tab:
Data Section The input data section of the Includes.
Mode The following options are available:
- Generate data within main input file JewelSuite creates the content of the data section and writes it directly into the main simulation input file (*.DATA).
- Generate and use new include file JewelSuite creates the content of the data section in a separate include file (*.inc) and references it in the main simulation input file with an INCLUDE statement.
- Use existing include file This option allows you to browse and select an external include file (*.inc). The file path will be added to the main simulation input file via an INCLUDE statement.
It is recommended to store your external include file in a directory other than the cases folder (*.Cases) to maintain better organization and avoid potential conflicts.
- Exclude data from input data set This option allows you to omit the entire data section and no data will be written to the main simulation input file.
Path Path to include file. Required for Generate and External modes. Path can be absolute only for external mode. Path must be relative and contain no “..” elements for generate.
The Times tab is used to enter and modify time table entries for the simulation. The simulation will run until the greatest active time in the time table is reached.
The Active column is used to designate active times. Times are, by default, active. By setting the active check box off for a time, that time is excluded from the generated deck.
Deleting an entry in the time table deletes all child records. Child records include well configuration, well constraints, and many other records. Conversely when records on child tables are created for new times, those times will appear in the time table.
When a time or date is changed in a record on the time table, the modified time or date is reflected on the child table. In other words, the child records are moved in time by changing the time on the time table.
Either times, dates, or both can be entered on a record in the time table. Inconsistencies will be rectified during deck validation. Dates can only be entered if a starting date was specified for the simulation. If a date is entered, the corresponding time will be calculated during validation.
Times are always in days.
The tables on the Restarts tab allow load, save, and restart operations to be specified. A save operation creates a restart that can be used in a load or a restart operation. Load and restart are similar operations for restarting a simulation from a saved state. A restart, in general is more flexible than a load operation.
Restart simulation from a flexible restart state (RESTART) A tuple that defines the arguments for the RESTART keyword. The edit button in the field displays the RESTART Edit Dialog which is used to specify members of the tuple.
Restart simulation from a fast save state (LOAD) A tuple that defines the arguments for the LOAD keyword. The edit button in the field displays the LOAD Edit Dialog which is used to specify members of the tuple.
Save file formatting mode A combo box that selects between FORMATTED and UNFORMATTED.
Save files are formatted (FMTSAVE) Checkbox that indicates that save files created will be formatted.
Save files are unified (UNIFSAVE) Checkbox that indicates that save files are unified. All restart states are contained in a single disk file.
Save files are multiple (MULTSAVE) Integer which describes how the multiple save operation is performed:-1 suppress save files.0 overwrite save files.1 create save files at each SAVE keyword.
Skip to restart time (SKIPREST) Check box that indicates if schedule keywords should be skipped up to the restart time.
Restart Time Table Table of time for which to generate a SAVE keyword.
The Dimensions Tab contains tuples used to define the sizes of arrays in the simulation deck. In most cases these values can be defaulted. When the deck is built, the dimensions are checked to ensure that all dimensions are adequately sized.
